TOP 10 PICKLEBALL COURTS IN IPOH

BY DARREN GOH
Top 10 Pickleball Courts in Ipoh

During a recent road trip to Penang, I managed to do a quick stop over at Ipoh, a city famous for its White Coffee, stunning natural beauty with limestone hills, cave temples, colonial-era heritage preserved in its architecture, and vibrant street art found in its Old Town.

My sons were born there thus I have a strong affinity for anything Ipoh – mostly food and how laid back it is compared to KL or Penang. Top of my agenda for this trip was to check out the pickleball scene there and was I pleasantly surprised by how active the community of 1,500 plus picklers were. There are approximately 10-15 decent venues to choose from.

Here are my Top 10 playlist for Ipoh:

1. Ipoh Pickleball Fun Club (PFC)

1. Ipoh Pickleball Fun Club (PFC)

This is one of my favourite places to play in Ipoh. It is located in the middle of the city centre and is within walking distance to Ipoh Parade, the city's largest mall and a short drive to the Greentown Commercial Centre. The facility, converted from an old bungalow, comprises of 3x social open courts, 2x standard covered courts and 6x VIP covered courts. It is suitable for tournaments where it hosted the PFC Open 2025 tournament, that drew over 200 players.

PFC leans into the pickleball lifestyle, offering players a suite of services and facilities to use while there. The Pro shop carries mostly Joola branded paddles and it also has a quaint in-house cafe.

Address: 19, Jalan Wan Mohd Salleh, 30450 Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia
Opening hours: 7am to 12am (except Sunday until 11pm)

4. Hugh's Racquet Club

Pickleball gets the luxe treatment at Hugh's Racquet Club. With two indoor and 2 outdoor courts, players of all ages and skill levels can enjoy an exciting session of pickleball right in the heart of Ipoh. Hugh's is a community hub offering pickleball and padel courts, praised for its modern facilities and vibrant atmosphere, and it also hosts events like children's clinics. It ranks 4th on my list for two reasons – the best location in town and, how it gives out exclusive and boutique vibes. With well-maintained facilities and a lounge area to cool off between sessions, Hugh's is the perfect setting for high-energy matches and laid-back rallies.

Located within the industrial sector of the town, Pick a Ball boasts seven dedicated courts, a pro shop and spacious parking. Open all week from day to night, it also houses a mini 'Mypickleball' pro shop. Court rental at RM20/hour is one of the cheapest around - definitely value for money. 6. Pickleball Connect @ Bercham

6. Pickleball Connect @ Bercham

If the weather's got you second-guessing your game, Pickleball Connect has you covered - literally. With 5 indoor-sheltered courts, you can play rain or shine while enjoying amenities like seating areas, shower, pro shop and plenty of parking. It provides a welcoming environment for players of all levels with a 40-foot ceiling and special heat insulation to cool down the courts. It uses foreign elastic floor, an elastic impact-absorbing floor system, designed to provide a safe and comfortable playing surface, particularly beneficial for minimizing joint strain and providing consistent ball bounce. However, its location is not the most strategic compared to the others reviewed.

7. Pickleball Sanctuary @ Centrepoint

7. Pickleball Sanctuary @ Centrepoint

You can't miss Pickleball Sanctuary as its exterior is stark pink and sticks out in a commercial township near Pasir Pinji (15 minute drive from Ipoh downtown). Took me quite some time to find a parking spot in this very busy neighbourhood. Opened in January 2025, this court used to be a restaurant, now converted into a 4-court spot. I signed up for a drill session with some local regulars and felt very welcomed instantly; the community of picklers here are very tight-knitted and everyone seems to know everyone. The playing surface is passable concrete type with lots of natural light, giant fans and more than enough vertical clearance for lobs. They do have a mini pro-shop promoting the Protech brand; everything else is spartan.

8. 91 Pickleball Clubhouse, Aeon Station 18

8. 91 Pickleball Clubhouse, Aeon Station 18

The 91 Pickleball Clubhouse at Giant USJ has many admirers and is a must play court for any pickleball aficionados. Opened by former badminton Olympian Chan Peng Soon, it is one of the best in Klang Valley, so there was a lot of excitement and high expectations when he opened a branch in Ipoh. Now, I'm not a big fan of the Ipoh one for a few reasons. Located at level 2 AEON Ipoh Station 18, the newly opened indoor facility is by far the most comfortable and is very convenient with plenty of retail shops surrounding it. The pro-shop is head above the rest and its air-conditioned carpeted lounge area is super comfy for players and spectators alike. However, it suffers from the constraints of space and ceiling height as you might expect in a retail mall setting. I think it's a great place for beginners and non-competitive novice players and provides great accessibility to the masses, but may not be the No. 1 choice for more advance players.

9. AC Centre Court @ AC Hotel by Marriott

9. AC Centre Court @ AC Hotel by Marriott

This was the venue that I was most curious about from the pictures I saw on social media postings. An air-conditioned spot on top of a 5-star hotel with a view to kill. Now If you're looking for a game with a view of Ipoh's landscape and surrounding famed limestone hills, AC Centre Court is your choice hands down. While it offers a unique, aesthetically pleasing experience, its design flaws, particularly the low ceilings, large windows hampering visibility, inadequate ball storage, heat and poor ball containment (no barriers between the courts), might be a turn off to some. While the court offers a unique setting, its architectural limitations and access (you need to ask the security at lobby to buzz you up), detract from the experience, making it a less ideal option compared to other local courts.

10. The Pickle Arena @ Gunung Rapat

10. The Pickle Arena @ Gunung Rapat

Pickle Arena is the closest spot to the famous Sam Poh Tong temple and the Ipoh airport. Catering to both seasoned players and beginners, it offers everything you need for a great game - 3 indoor social courts and one training court on first floor. There's ample private parking space and is located just behind Starbucks and McDonald's. You can easily grab a bite of local hawker fare in the vicinity after you game and this place opens up till late. The venue is a bit tight and you won't get much space to lounge around and reception area is small. Still, its playable and I like the high nets all around the courts. Nothing fancy, not a posh setting like the Dinkers or Masterdink, but good enough to sweat it out.

Other notable mentions are the covered X-Park Sunway Ipoh and the outdoor Playground at Botani. I'm sure there will be more new ones sprouting up the next time I swing over for my Nga Choy Kai (Ipoh Bean Sprout Chicken)!
